Enigma Levels
Table of Contents
Overview
On this page you will find several levels I created for the game Enigma.
You can download single levels as ZIP archives, which contain the actual level file as well as an accompanying thumbnail image. Additionally, all levels are available in two level packs. Notes on how to add new levels and level packs to Enigma can be found in the next section.
For the labyrinth levels there are overview images available, too, because the layout of a labyrinth is difficult to comprehend by simply playing the level.
Adding Levels to Enigma
The following notes on the addition of levels refers to Enigma version 1.00 beta or higher.
Adding Single Levels
A single Enigma level consists of the actual level file (*.xml) and
(often) a preview image (*.png). Both files should be extracted and put
into the Enigma “Auto” directory. On Windows systems this directory should
reside below C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Enigma\levels\. On other operating systems the directory should be
below ~/.enigma/levels/. After extracting the file to the “Auto”
directory, Enigma must be restarted.
Alternatively, you can choose a different directory (not “Auto”) for new
levels. To do so, you should first create that directory and a suitable
index file using Enigma (Level Pack – New Group – New Pack).
Enigma will then create the appropriate directory, again below
C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Enigma\levels\ or
~/.enigma/levels/ respectively. Extract the level archives into that new
directory and restart Enigma. Do a right click on your new level pack,
click on Compose Pack and press F5.
Adding Level Packs
To add a new level pack it is sufficient to move the level pack archive
(the ZIP file) to the Enigma level directory (C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Enigma\levels\ or ~/.enigma/levels/
respectively). You need not extract the archive but must restart Enigma to
access the new level pack.
Labyrinth Levels
All of the following labyrinth levels are available as level pack: labyrinths.zip.
Intro
Intro is the introduction level for the labyrinth level pack. Basically, it’s a classical labyrinth (“Crete labyrinth”) with three circuits. The documents within the level try to explain what the labyrinth level pack is all about.

Crete
Crete is the re-creation of a classical labyrinth and consequently belongs to the same class of labyrinths as Intro. However, Crete is a labyrinth with seven circuits.
The classical labyrinth with seven circuits is commonly accepted as “mother of all labyrinths”.

Amiens
Amiens is a Chartres type labyrinth transformed into an octagonal shape. The original labyrinth was presumably built in the year 1288, but was destroyed during a renovation of the Amiens cathedral's floor around 1827-1829. The reconstruction took place from 1894 to 1897 and can still be seen in Amiens today.

Reims
Reims labyrinth reminds of Amiens because of it's octagonal basic shape. It was presumably built between 1287 and 1311 in the cathedral of Reims. Around the year 1778 is was removed at the instigation of the canon Jacquemart who was annoyed by the “hilarious ado on the labyrinth”. The most detailed historical tradition of the labyrinth is found in Recherches de pluisieurs singularités, par François Merlin, controlleur général de la maison de feu madame Marie-Élizabeth, fille unique de feu roi Charles dernier … portraictes et escrites par Jacques Cellier, demourant à Reims.

Counterclockwise
In Counterclockwise the right amount of force is needed to neither get caught by the chaser nor to hang around for too long at those attractive magnets.

Hot Hurdle Race requires speed and rhythm to jump over several laser beams. Originally the ball was chased by a fire wall (hence the level's name) but since it's yet undecided how fire is handled in future Enigma releases (e.g. is it possible to jump over fire) I've replaced the fire with skulls.
This level is part of the Enigma development version and will consequently come most likely together with the next stable version (> 1.00) of Enigma.
